Food triggers

Here's a partial list of major food triggers, according to the National Headache Foundation.

• Ripened cheeses (such as cheddar, Emmentaler, Stilton, Brie, and Camembert)
• Chocolate
• Marinated, pickled, or fermented food
• Foods that contain nitrites or nitrates (bacon, hot dogs) or MSG (soy sauce, meat tenderizers, seasoned salt)
• Sour cream
• Nuts, peanut butter
• Sourdough bread
• Broad beans, lima beans, fava beans, snow peas
• Figs, raisins, papayas, avocados, red plums
• Citrus fruits
• Excessive amounts (more than 2 cups total) of caffeinated beverages such as tea, coffee, or cola
• Alcohol (including red wine and beer)

Menstruation

For many women, the menstrual cycle is a major trigger. Attacks usually occur a few days before or during their period or, for some women, at ovulation. A drop in estrogen is believed to be the culprit. As women near menopause, fluctuating estrogen levels may also trigger an increase in migraines.

Your environment

Strong perfume is an immediate trigger for some, making common spaces (offices, churches) a challenge, and the beauty counters in big department stores a particular hell. For others, it can be flickering lights—even a movie screen in a darkened theater or sunshine flashing through trees on a road as they're driving.

Stress

The most common migraine trigger is stress. Migraine sufferers are thought to be highly responsive emotionally. Anxiety, worry, shock, and sadness can all release certain brain chemicals that lead to a migraine headache. (Ironically, the sense of release after a stressful period can also lead to migraines, which could be the cause of weekend headaches.)

No, it's not, the doctor and medication is expensive!
Changing to a healthier live style can be inconvenient, we have to form new habits and this takes some effort.
The question is: To you just want to change or are you actually willing to change?

Many so called costly healthy foods can be made from scratch with little money like hummus.
Try it and enjoy!



For the Sun Dried Tomato and Basil Hummus
  • Two 400g tins of chickpeas
  • Two 170g jars of sun-dried tomatoes
  • 15 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 10 tablespoons of water
  • A big handful of fresh basil leaves
  • 2 juicy lemons
  • 3 heaped tablespoons of tahini
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 3 teaspoons of cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
Roast Carrot and Chili Hummus
  • Two 400g tins of chickpeas
  • 4 carrots
  • 15 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 10 tablespoons of water
  • 4 sticks of rosemary
  • 2 juicy lemons
  • 2 heaped tablespoons of tahini
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 teaspoons of cumin
  • 1 red chilli pepper
  • salt and pepper to taste
For the Roasted Aubergine Hummus
  • Two 400g tins of chickpeas
  • 15 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 10 tablespoons of water
  • 2 juicy lemons
  • 2 heaped tablespoons of tahini
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 teaspoons of cumin
  • 2 teaspoons of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of tamari
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 aubergine

DIY Turmeric‬ Face Mask for ‪Wrinkles‬, Rosacea, ‪Acne, Dark Circles, and More!

Here’s a very effective DIY remedy that you can use to achieve a smooth glowing complexion. Use it to rid of rosacea and sun spots, shrink pores, prevent breakouts, erase fine lines, and tighten skin.
What You Need:
-2 Tablespoons Garbanzo Bean Flour
-1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
-1 Tablespoon Avocado Oil (If you don’t have any you can substitute coconut oil, or almond oil)

I remember my Mom washing her produce with just water, in fact she still does. Surely that must be good enough?The Environmental Working Group, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to use the power of public information to protect public health and the environment, created a shopper's guide to pesticides.  They examined "nearly 51,000 tests for pesticides on these foods, conducted from 2000 and 2005 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. Contamination was measured in six different ways and crops were ranked based on a composite score from all categories."  Here are the best and the worst produce, based on their research:
12 Most Contaminated fruits and vegetables:
Peaches - Strawberries - Pears - Lettuce
Apples - Cherries - Bell Peppers - Spinach
Nectarines - Imported Grapes - Celery - Potatoes

An Environmental Working Group study found as many as 11 different pesticides on some sweet bell peppers and as many as 9 different pesticides on some apples, peaches, celery and lettuce.  They found that eating the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables will expose a person to about 14 pesticides per day, on average.  Eating the 12 least contaminated will expose a person to less than 2 pesticides per day (Shopper’s Guide, EWG, 2008).  

To wash your produce use:
2tbs baking soda
1tbs lemonjuice
or soak them in vinegar.
Limp lettuce can be brought back to life by soaking it in vinegar.
